I have been fortunate so far in the garden here and the number of pests, insects avian and mammalian have been relatively restricted and I have managed to keep rabbits at bay and we have no deer here, so far. One surprise has been the lack of grey squirrels despite the surrounding trees and the squirrels around the neighbouring area. But at least one has moved into the neighbourhood. I am not sure that it wasn’t them that munched on the sweetcorn, even though I blamed rats at first. And I spent an amusing ten minutes trying to frighten a squirrel out of the garden a while ago when I caught one in an apple tree. I picked up and threw fallen apples at it to make it quite clear that I didn’t want it there but my aim was not very good and, by the end, I was getting a bit worried that it might leap at me in anger since it was clearly swearing at me as it jumped from branch to branch.
I don’t have a rabid hatred of grey squirrels but I really don’t want them to add to the list of things that can go wrong in the garden.
