Iris ‘World Premier’

Another day and another iris open – well several actually. I woke to strong winds and rain this morning so I hope they are still standing. But this one managed to unfurl yesterday, coaxed by the few periods of warm sun. It was a bud in the morning but just about open by late afternoon.

‘World Premier’ is one of Schreiner’s famous blue and was introduced in 1998 and subsequently won an Honourable Mention, Award of Merit and Wister Medal.

It is a beauty with pale blue standards and inky blue falls. The standards should fade as they age and the flowers will open further but already it is a beautiful, sumptuous flower and it is widely regarded as a good grower.
