Bargains galore
Today a moan.
I am angry about the world but I will take it all out on Mr Price
If you live in Ireland you will know about and may be a customer of Mr Price, an Irish-owned discount store. Our local branch is ‘out-of-town’ and happens to be our nearest shop. As well as selling useful items and endless isles of cheap Chinese rubbish they also sell some food and milk, which is handy when we run out.
Unfortunately, when it comes to retail in Ireland, anything goes and you cannot rely on shelf prices. Even large supermarkets such as Dunnes have offers that are just ludicrous, with the ‘usual price’ vastly inflated. And we all know about Tesco and their non-clubcard prices that no sane person would ever pay. There are laws to prevent this but no one seems to care.
But I was in Mr Price the other day to get some cat food – they sell a premium cat food pouch that Mia loves – and the six pack that usually costs 2.99 was being sold for 1.49. I was a bit suspicious because the ‘was’ price was only 2.49, not 2.99. So before I filled a basket I went to the till and asked. And I was right to be suspicious because it was 2.99.
I said that the shelf label was wrong but she had no interest in that. So I went back to the shelf, removed the label and tore it up, It will prevent anyone else from being misled. I am not happy at such vandalism but it was removing illegal pricing and as so many items on the shelf have no adjacent price labels it will hardly make a huge difference – just prevent people from being ripped off.
But I then had a look along the shelves. And these are just some of the amazing offers I discovered.
Mr Price’s mission statement on their website is:
To be Ireland’s biggest & best discount variety store – known for exceptional value, huge selection & amazing branded bargains – all in a beautiful & welcoming environment
HAHAHAHA

Does no one check these or think it is wrong? Where do they sell a 2.75 bag of crisps for 4.75?
Back to plants tomorrow
You’re absolutely right. We are being taken for fools.
