A kaleidoscope of butterflies

One of the collective nouns for butterflies is a kaleidoscope. Others are a swarm, flutter, rainbow and shimmer. The zinnias have been effective in attracting butterflies though it is difficult to show more than one at a time. The statice is also popular, as is to be expected. The cosmos don’t seem to be that attractive, though bees love them, and allium ‘Millennium’ is often covered in butterflies. Although there have been a few red admirals and painted ladies, small tortoiseshells have been by far the most common species, with a few peacocks. All are welcome.
