Mount Usher at the end of August
Blue lacecap hydrangea reflected the blue sky that showed off the enormous eucalyptus to perfection
Last weekend I popped into Mount Usher, again (well I bought a season ticket so it would be daft not to!) and although it was raining when I arrived the sun soon came out and the garden looked crisp and beautiful. It was late afternoon and the sun was low in the sky, giving a very autumnal feel. Where did this summer go?
The River Vartry is always the centre of attention
The dark water gives wonderful reflections, punctuated by curtains of movement here and there
I thought it was a slightly odd choice to plant cleomes in the beds near the area known as ‘The Island’ but they were colourful and effective and gave interest to an area that would otherwise be dull at this time of year
Its that river again
Did I mention the river?
The area planted with wildflowers and naturalised with exotics was looking very interesting with a mix of colours and textures
And the wasps loved the red hot pokers, dripping with nectar
The eucryphias were in full bloom and spectacular.
… and the flowers were very attractive to bees
And, of course, the hydrangeas were colourful everywhere
