Credit where it’s due: Kings seeds
I am a bit more organised than usual this year and, on wet and windy Tuesday, I got most of my seed orders done. I always share my business around and most of my veg seed was ordered from Kings Seeds this year. Kings are not the best known seed company but offer a bit of a no-frills range of seeds in a helpful catalogue. ‘No-frills’ is a bit inaccurate really because although they may not offer the biggest range of seeds, and their flower range is basic (apart from sweet peas in which they specialise) they offer some of the best and newest veg varieties for serious gardeners. The packets are not covered in super-saturated coloured photos but you can get everything you need for your veg garden or allotment from Kings and, most importantly, their prices are extremely good. I have not checked price-per-seed but I would be confident that, in most cases, you can’t buy much cheaper. They also offer lots of green manures and some popular varieties in big packs for large plots and semi-commercial gardeners.
I ordered online on Tuesday and it was pretty simple though I had the usual issue of logging on and not remembering what my password was. I tried to get a new one and the email didn’t come through within an hour so I rang up and a human gave me the password immediately. It was a sizable order, several hundred pounds, though they didn’t know at the time.
And today the box (weighing 4kg – yes there are lots of bean and pea seeds) arrived with me, exactly 71 hours after I pressed the button and sent off my order. That would be good enough it was being sent from Essex to Cambridgeshire but this was across the water to rural Wexford. So well done and thank you Kings Seeds – good job!
love it… seed ordering time the thoughts of next years garden loaded with veg and bathed in warm sunshine
