Iris ‘Afternoon in Rio’
Well the World Cup has started and although it won’t make much impact on my life over the next few weeks it seemed appropriate to feature this iris which opened its first bloom yesterday, a day early.
Today has to be the hottest day of the year so far and perhaps the heat is what caused the falls to tuck under a little. Anyway it is a lovely iris that is what I am sure is normally described as methyl violet. Schreiners, who introduced this in 2005, describe it as violet purple with bronze edges. It is mid-late season but has been one of the last to open here this year.
