Water, water, everywhere

Here in Wexford we have not had the terrible rain and high tides that have been making life a misery for residents in the west of Ireland such as in Cork and Limerick or in the south west of England, but it does seem to have rained for weeks without end. Last night we had possibly the worst storms so far, with winds from the east and south rather than the usual west and it has rained more or less all day, most of it coming down sideways.

The local river is high and has burst its banks in places and the River Slaney, which is the main river in the area, has burst its banks and Enniscorthy is on flood alert again.

The garden is waterlogged, but not, thankfully, under water. But the water table in the heavy, clay soil must be at the soil surface. I am sure the plants will be OK but the bearded iris planted last autumn look miserable and these poor forget-me-nots and tulips must be unhappy.
