Welcome to my experiences gardening in Ireland
Welcome to this little corner of my world here in the southeast corner of Ireland, in beautiful County Wexford.
Though a thoroughbred Brit, circumstances brought me here in January 2013 to create/restore a garden. This was in line with my training and a departure from the past 20 years of writing and editing. This part of my life continues but day-to-day work is more hands-on.
Gardening in a new country, with different climate, soil and range of plants is exciting and challenging and creating a new garden offers a huge range of possibilities. I have been fortunate to have had a great summer with exceptional weather and no sign of the dreaded potato blight until very late in the season.
Check back to see how the garden is progressing, what is in flower, what is doing well (and what has died) and tips to help you get the best from your garden too with seasonal advice.
And The Biking Gardener?
Well, it was an idea, combining my two main passions, that became a regular, long-running feature in the UK mag Garden Answers, when i was Editor. I used to ride round the country to solve garden problems ‘wheelie fast’. It always seemed like a great idea for a TV show!
